Nikolaos Frangogiannis

Dr Nikolaos Frangogiannis earned his medical degree from the University of Athens Medical School, then completed residency training in Internal Medicine (Clinical Investigator Pathway), and a fellowship in Cardiology, at Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston TX. After completing his fellowship in 1999, he joined the faculty at Baylor and established his laboratory investigating inflammatory mechanisms in cardiac injury, repair and remodelling. In 2010, Dr Frangogiannis relocated to Albert Einstein College of Medicine (Bronx NY), where he currently holds the Edmond J Safra Chair in Cardiovascular Medicine. His laboratory studies the molecular and cellular basis of cardiac repair, remodelling and fibrosis following ischemic and non-ischemic injury and is funded by multiple US National Institutes of Health (NIH) and US Department of Defense grants. Dr Frangogiannis has served as a member or Chair in many NIH, Department of Defense, Veterans Affairs and American Heart Association study sections, reviews for >100 scientific journals, and is a member of >15 editorial boards of cardiovascular and general biomedical journals.
