AFLUENT: National trial of acute influenza vaccination

AFLUENT: National trial of acute influenza vaccination to reduce recurrent cardiovascular events in Australia

Does offering heart attack survivors a flu shot at discharge improve coverage and reduce future cardiovascular events?

Please join us on Friday August 7 in Room C3.2 from 5-6 PM to learn more about this exciting national trial.

AFLUENT is a cluster randomised type II implementation trial of in-hospital influenza vaccinations at discharge versus usual care post-MI, funded by an MRFF Cardiovascular Health grant.

Participating hospitals will be randomised 1:1 to either offering in-hospital influenza vaccinations prior to discharge, or usual care with regards to post-MI influenza vaccination. Co-primary outcomes are vaccination rates at 3 months, and clinical events (MACE and all-cause death) at 12 months with both collected via data linkage.

We are looking for 40 public hospital sites across metropolitan and regional Australia. The trial is proposed to commence in May 2027 and run until late 2029, incorporating 3 full flu seasons.

Please join us on Friday August 7 in Room C3.2 from 5-6 PM to learn more about the AFLUENT trial. Scan the QR code below to register your interest in the trial, or contact afluent.trial@sydney.edu.au if you would like more information.
