Tom Karl

Professor of Surgery, Johns Hopkins University, United States

Tom R. Karl is a professor of surgery at Johns Hopkins University, currently based in Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, USA. He has also had professorial appointments at University of Pennsylvania, UCSF, and University of Queensland. His pediatric cardiac training was primarily in Great Ormond Street, London. He has been involved in pediatric cardiac surgery for over 3 decades, and his career has taken him to clinical and research endeavours in Melbourne (RCH), Philadelphia (CHOP), San Francisco UCSF), and Brisbane (Mater Children's Hospital).  He is currently an Associate Editor for EJCTS and CiTY, and is a frequently invited speaker at international cardiac meetings. Karl has been involved in the surgical education of over 60 pediatric cardiac trainees. He also has been a team member or leader for  humanitarian cardiac missions in 14 countries.
